What Is The Immersion Experience?

ACTORS THEATRE OF INDIANA’S THEATRE IMMERSION EXPERIENCE 2018 is a truly unique, one-of-a kind program for students ages 14-18 interested in pursuing a career in theatre.

The program is designed to give young performing artists the chance to broaden, deepen, and develop their talents in a uniqely “hands on” way.

Actors Theatre of Indiana will be offering 4 Immersion experiences between January and June of 2018.

In each Theatre Immersion Experience, a select group of students will follow an ATI (Actors Theatre of Indiana) Main Stage Production from it’s first rehearsal through to opening night. They will have complete access to observe and interact with the actors, directors, designers, and technicians. They will attend the first rehearsal, staging and musical rehearsals, ATI’s Sneak Peek, technical rehearsal, final dress rehearsal, and opening night performance followed by the opening night party. They will shadow backstage technicians and the stage manager during performances. They will be exposed to all aspects of the theatre and experience the entire collaborative process. The opportunity to witness a professional production from beginning to end is invaluable to understanding a life in theatre arts.

After the production opens, students will receive 40 hours of customized instruction taught by Broadway and theatre professionals.  The 40 hour curriculum is designed to engage, inspire, educate, and develop their talents. It will include instruction in audition techniques, dance and movement, character study, body and breath awareness, script analysis, vocal techniques, confidence training, preparation for college acceptance, as well as Master Classes taught by professional guest artists and cast members in the Main Stage Production they are following.

Based on all they have learned and observed the students will write, direct, choreograph, design and star in their very own Final Showcase. It will be presented on stage at The Studio Theater for a select, invited audience of family, friends, and faculty of highly regarded University Theatre Programs. The students will receive feedback from the panel of theatre faculty and will, in turn, share their feedback about the entire Immersion Experience at an informal reception following the Showcase.

This program is for students with a true desire to pursue a theatre career. They must be committed to consistent attendance, a willingness to be stretched and challenged, and are curious, fearless, creative, collaborative, and ready to grow.
