Joseph F. Fitzgerald, MD


Dr. Fitzgerald was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.  He graduated from St. Joseph’s College (IN), and then from Indiana University School of Joseph F. FitzgeraldMedicine in 1965.  He subsequently trained in pediatrics and in adult gastroenterology.  Dr. Fitzgerald founded the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children – Indiana University Medical Center in 1969, and served as Director of the Division until 2005.  He remains at 0.25 FTE.

Dr. Fitzgerald has been on ATI’s board since the inception of the theatre, with a one year hiatus.  He has been married to his precious wife, Nell, for 57 years.  They have three daughters and four granddaughters.  He is also an elder at Faith Missionary Church in Indianapolis.
