Your Theatre Experience

WELCOME TO THE THEATRE EXPERIENCE

As an audience member, you have a very important job to do.  Everybody in the theatre is really a part of the production.  Your attention, responses, and imagination are a real part of each performance.  The show can be made better because of you.

HERE’S HOW BEST TO ENJOY THE SHOW.

HOW TO COME

√          It is best to order your tickets in advance.

√          You can order tickets three ways: online or by phone (317.843.3800) or in person at the box office at the west entrance of the Palladium off 3rd Avenue SW, 1 Carter Green, Carmel, IN.

√          You can get your tickets in your hands three ways: print from online, have them mailed to you, or pick them up at the Will Call box office outside the theater.

√          Contact the Center’s box office to let them know of any special needs in advance.

WHERE TO GO

√          ATI shows are in their home, The Studio Theater, in the building nearest to the parking garage.  The Studio Theater has 200 seats and is in the shape of a thrust configuration, meaning the audience surrounds the performance space on three sides.   It is the most intimate space within the Center for the Performing Arts.

√          Free self-parking is offered in the secure, on-site garage located south of the Palladium. Enter the Center’s parking garage off 3rd Avenue SW.

WHAT TO EXPECT

√          Plan on spending several hours at the theatre.  Most shows run 90 to 120 minutes, usually with an intermission allowing time for theatergoers to use the restrooms and buy refreshments in the lobby.

√          Once you enter the theatre, you will be given a printed program. This is your main source of information regarding ATI and the performance that you are about to enjoy. For example, statements from ATI’s Executive Director, Co-Founders and the Director of the show are usually included. You’ll discover biographies of the cast and the artistic and production staff.  The program also lists upcoming shows, as well as sponsors and donors.

WHEN TO ARRIVE

√          Arrive twenty to thirty minutes before a showtime.  Give yourself plenty of time to park, walk to the theater, use the restroom, perhaps pick up your tickets at Will Call, and find your seat.  Ushers are available to help you find your seat and will give you a program.

WHAT TO DO WHEN THE SHOW STARTS

√          Laugh, applaud, and enjoy the show! The actors on stage can see you, hear you, and feel you just as you can see, hear, and feel them.  They love to hear you laugh when you find something funny and clap at the end of the performance.  The more you clap, the more the actors know you liked the show.

√          Turn off all electronic devices so as not to disturb the actors or your fellow audience members.

√          Since the actors can see you, stay in your seat until the final bow and the house lights go up in the theater so you don’t disturb their performance.

√          Even if you recognize a show tune and want to sing along, remain quiet throughout the show.

√          If you wish to applaud, the best times to do so are after a musical number and at the end of an act.

√          Avoid any sounds that can disturb the people around you and the performers, such as chewing gum or coughing.

HOW TO DEEPEN YOUR EXPERIENCE OF THE SHOWS

√          For each of ATI’s four main productions per season, an informal Talk Back is held immediately after the second Sunday matinee.  These are moderated discussions with the actors, the artistic team and, at times, special guests. They take questions from and discuss the show with you, the audience, to deepen your understanding of the work and explain how creative choices were made.

ATI welcomes your comments and feedback.
