Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. GO!
In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired the hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.
UNNECESSARY FARCE has over 165 productions to date, being produced all around the world. Playwright Paul Slade Smith gives audiences a fun-filled show, filled to the brim with comedy. The play is a perfect combination of a classical farce and a contemporary American plot.
“The funniest two hours of theater I have seen in several years. Something is at stake every second, and the most outrageous moments seem spontaneous and logical.”
– Post-Standard (Syracuse, New York)
“Playwright Paul Slade Smith deftly balances the two elements in this inventive, intelligent, fast-paced piece. His plot is a wonderfully unpredictable apparatus involving seven fools entangled in a hilarious web of sex, lies, and political corruption. Yet his characters are real people with real needs and fascinating foibles.” —Jack Helbig, Chicago Reader
“A smash hit! Two hours of non-stop laughter. The plot weaves you through mix-ups and mayhem you won’t believe. This is one funny show you don’t want to miss!“ – ABC 53 (Michigan)
“A fast and furious new farce.” – Kenneth Jones, Playbill
“Unrelenting laughs.” – The Boston Globe
